The Health Benefits of Nuts, Seeds & Pulses

For starters, let’s look at what nuts seeds and pulses actually are …

All of the above are a great source of protein, fiber, minerals and vitamins and they are extremely nutritious. The simplest and easiest way to consume seeds is sprinkled into smoothies, added to oats and yoghurt and thrown into salads. For example sesame seeds help reduce inflammation which is particularly helpful for those suffer from arthritis. Hemp seeds can have beneficial effects on the state of your heart by increasing the omega 3 acids in blood. Chia is a very popular seed with those that understand it can help reduce blood sugars and Chia seeds are also thought to help reduce the risk of heart disease. Nuts

In simple terms nuts are really a dried fruit and in the very same way many people think a tomato is a vegetable when actually it is in fact a fruit. So occasionally you find that what we think of as nuts are occasionally actually a fruit. Seeds

Full of nutrients and fiber, Chia seeds for example also have very few calories. Infact the word “Chia” is an ancient Mayan word meaning STRENGTH. Not least because more often than not Chia seeds are grown organically and are a whole grain food, they are increasing in popularity and are often top of the list when it comes to choosing seeds to consume as part of a healthy diet.

Pulses

Adding pulses to soup and casseroles is a great way to avoid meat and pulses are full of iron too. Pulses come tinned or dried and the latter just need to be soaked drained and rinsed before cooking. The advantage of dried pulses is that they can be stored for a long time and without a whole load of packaging.
